Read MoreAs a kid we were a mere twenty minutes away from the local drive-in theater and we only went once. I still remember the movies that were playing: the Princess Diaries and Pearl Harbor. Obviously, that was a very long time ago. The last couple of years I've written up "to do lists" for the summer and the drive-in has always been high on the list, but somehow I've neglected to go. Until this year!
Read MoreDid you hear? I wrote a guide to Des Moines over on Design*Sponge (which you can read by clicking here.) It was super hard to narrow down all the places I thought were worth visiting, but I ended up putting together a list I feel proud to share. After the jump are a few pictures that didn't make it onto the guide, but that I thought were too good not to show you guys.
Read MoreGarrett's life seems to be like one big adventure after another. A few weeks ago he manned Coachella's official Instagram account and in the past he's worked with brands like Land Rover and Aeropostale on a variety of marketing campaigns.
Read MoreYesterday I got off work early and drove down to Tulip Time with some of my family. When my cousins got in my car, one of them looked at me and said, "My mom told me to wear a nice shirt because I might be on your blog." That made me laugh so hard!
Read MoreI have an extensive list of people I want to feature on the site and near the top of this year's list was my friend, Emily Boyd. Somehow between both of our schedules we found time to meet up at La Mie to talk about Emily's involvement in neighborhood revitalization here in Des Moines. Emily's one of the busiest people I know, but also one of the happiest. I think she's found that sweet spot where her deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet up.
Read MoreIt's almost May! What in the world? I'm not even thirty and time is already flying by. Hope you had a good month, folks. I'm knee-deep in projects, as well as planning an upcoming trip to Tennessee! In the meantime, below are some links I enjoyed this month. See you soon.
Read MoreJodi Whitworth is young, but she's already successful. She's a reporter at WHO-TV (for you locals, that's Channel 13) and has been in that capacity the last two years. It's easy to see why she's found success: she's a good listener, a natural storyteller, and her responses are fast and thoughtful.
After the six o’ clock news finished filming, we proceeded to the sound stage where we sat down to talk about her work as a journalist and who she dreams of interviewing.
Read MoreA couple of years ago, right around Christmastime, I had a few days off from work and was mindlessly scrolling through Facebook. As much as I love social media, it tends to drain me if I'm on for too long. Raise your hand if you understand (I see that hand!)
But Facebook is also fun because you get into that habit of clicking around and magically finding out about something you didn't know anything about prior! On this day that happened: I discovered blogs. Unlike social media, blogs didn't drain me. If anything, I logged off feeling more inspired, which is something we look for online, but rarely end up finding.
Read MoreI stumbled upon Liam illustrations in an article I was reading and thought his work was smart, simple, and savvy. So I reached out to see if he would be interested in sharing about his art and he graciously agreed. We corresponded over email, discussing his career as an illustrator, as well as his thoughts on technology in the modern world.
